About Chaim
Chaim received his B.A. degree from Moody Bible Institute in Jewish Studies and his M.A. degree from Denver Seminary in Old Testament and Hebrew and his PhD in Biblical Archeology. His Doctoral Dissertation was on the “Esoteric Structure of the Hebrew Alphabet.” He has taught Classical Hebrew at World Harvest Bible College for thirteen years and also taught Hebrew for three years as a language course for Christian Center High School.
Chaim attended undergraduate and graduate school during the time that the New International Version of the Old Testament was being translated. Every Hebrew instructor he studied under was involved in the translation process. His classes focused on the methods of translation and the particular passages that these instructors were assigned by the NIV translation committee. He was one of two students who were involved in an advanced Hebrew study under Dr. Kalland at Denver Seminary whom Chaim Bentorah considered to be his mentor. Dr. Kalland was on the executive committee for the translation of the NIV and it was in this study that Chaim Bentorah was exposed to the inner workings of the translation process. He remembers becoming very discouraged over the lack of depth in many of the renderings and as a result his teacher encouraged him to seek out Jewish rabbis and discuss their theories of translation.
Chaim managed to have discussions with orthodox and esoteric rabbis and from them he learned that you could translate the Hebrew not only word for word, but letter by letter. Although he never incorporated their methods of study and translation in his own teachings while he served as an instructor in Classical Hebrew at World Harvest Bible College, he did spend the last fifty five years reading and translating from the Talmud, Mishnah and other Jewish sacred books the methods of study that rabbis through the centuries have recorded from Jewish literature.
A little over 20 years ago, he began to send out daily devotionals/Word Studies through e-mail to about 150 of his former college students. Each devotional took a passage of Scripture and did a study on the key words of each verse. In these studies he began to use the tools he learned from his research and discussion with rabbis translating letter by letter for many words he was studying. He would often spend six to eight hours a day in such studies. Now there are thousands on his mailing list with a library of Word Studies, here under the Daily Devotion section. Today, Chaim continues researching Hebrew words from the Semitic languages and sending out his studies daily.
Chaim teaches Biblical Hebrew & NT Aramaic on The All Access Learning Channel along with a Saturday morning Torah study that many use as their church service, as well as a week night interactive Bible study and a weekly In-depth study. All live classes are recorded to view at any time and at your own pace. There’s even an “Ask Chaim” because he will not leave you to figure things out on your own.
After years of teaching Hebrew on a traditional college level, following the traditional academic route of memorizing, vocabulary and declensions, which most if not all students readily forgot once out of Bible College, Chaim became discouraged to learn that the majority of his students rarely used what they learned. Now, on the AALC he is able to teach his method of learning that utilizes tools online so that there is no memorization and he also teaches the nature/cultural understanding of the language along with its spiritual aspects. In a few weeks, AALC students will learn to practically apply what they have learned to gain deeper insight into Scripture more than his advanced Hebrew students could after two years of studying Biblical Hebrew on a college level. Chaim may be, as he refers to himself, “a dusty old professor”, but he is very anxious to share and mentor from his years of research and language study with anyone who longs to dive under just the surface to explore the depth of God’s Word.
Chaim has written over 25 books which have been Amazon Best Sellers and is in the process of writing a N.T. Aramaic Commentary that he has been commissioned to do. He will also be sharing portions of his insights during the weekly Bible Studies and on YouTube:
About Laura
- Laura attended one of Chaim’s classes over 20yrs ago when he taught locally in small groups. “Having the same heart forJesus, perspective on scripture and life callings”, they quickly teamed up in becoming study and ministry partners. Chaim refers to Laura as his best student he’s ever had and someone who innately understands the nature of the Biblical languages, Hebrew & Aramaic.
- Laura fell in love with BH the very first day of class seeing God’s fingerprint all over the design of the language.
- Laura is the visionary behind Chaim Bentorah Ministries. After seeing how beautifully and deeply scripture opens with some simple learning, and feeling the weight of solely being privy to this treasure of information while studying under Chaim, she was determined to make this available to everyone who had the same desire to learn. Though at the time it seemed quite impossible, In God’s timing, He brought all the right people together to make it happen. Now, people from all over the world have become part of their online community. Laura designed the AALC in a way that everyone would have the same advantages as she did while learning, to ensure that there is equal opportunity to learn and study scripture in depth and to do Word studies in a fun and easy way.
- Laura teaches classes on The All Access Learning Channel and some topics include; dreams, the esoteric meaning of Hebrew letters using Psalm 119, Hebrew months of the year and is currently working on studies for a new course titled “How to do your own Hebrew & Aramaic Word Studies”.
- Laura has co-authored “Discovery the Mind…w/Chaim and is currently writing a book with studies using Gematria.
- One day Laura & Chaim hope to see the reality of what would be the 3rd part of the vision for CBM, in helping children, and young adults in need. They would especially love to help young adults who are aging out of foster care as they transition into living Independently.
