WORD STUDY – IMPERFECT – (ARAMAIC) BISHA בישׁא
Matthew 7:11: “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”
Did Jesus really teach that all fathers who give good gifts to their children are evil? The word in Greek used for evil is ponori from the root word poneros which means bad, malicious, wicked and evil. This is why every modern English translation uses the word evil because that is really what the word in the Greek is saying. Jesus spoke this in Aramaic and the Aramaic word that was used is The Aramaic word that is used is bisha which means to be imperfect, capable of making mistakes.
My earthly father never had an evil bone in his body, I can’t imagine anything evil about him, but he wasn’t perfect he made mistakes, he was bisha. He still took me fishing and hunting failing to understand I would much rather stay home and read a book. My Heavenly Father would not make that mistake, He is perfect. Yet, I felt very protected when as I child I was with my earthly father even if he wasn’t perfect, he was bisha. Should I not feel more protect today with my Heavenly Father?
