Ki Teitzel taken from Deuteronomy 21:10 “If you go out (to war)”

2 Samuel 2:22 And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

Tomorrow in our weekly Torah Study and Discussion on our All Access Learning channel we will be discussing the Torah portion entitled Ki Teitzel taken from Deuteronomy 21:10 “If you go out (to war)” There are three words for if in Hebrew.  This word ki is not the if of maybe or maybe not, it is the if that means since or because.  In other words “Because you go to war.”

It is a given that as Christians we are in a war, a spiritual war against evil lead by the old buzzard himself the devil.  The way we defeat the enemy is to go to the rock.  The word rock in Hebrew used in this verse is sela’ which really means the cleft of the rock. The cleft is a split in the mountain which is the safest place to be when pursued by the enemy.  The word sela’ is a word play off the word selah which means to rise up.  In ancient times the army which achieved the higher ground was the army that could not be defeated.  As we go to war against the enemy we need to rise up and take shelter in the cleft of the rock which is the heart of god. The safest place to be is in the center of God’s will and that is His heart. We will talk about this in our Torah study tomorrow. Consider joining our All Access to attend this discussion.
